Our favorite restaurants in Reykjavik

If you are a foodie like us, Reykjavik is heaven. The culinary scene is surprisingly diverse, so even the pickiest eaters will find something they can enjoy. Here is a list of our favorite restaurants:

The Old Iceland Restaurant

The Old Iceland Restaurant was very small, cozy restaurant with wonderful food. This was a great way to get introduced to the local cuisine. I got the filet of lamb, and Jackie got the traditional Icelandic meat soup. We ate here for lunch, but if you plan on coming for dinner, I would HIGHLY recommend making reservations. This is a very small restaurant.

Rok Restaurant

Rok restaurant is a tapas very close to the Hallgrímskirkja church downtown. There were no seats left when we arrived for dinner, but the hostess gave us the option to eat upstairs in their waiting area. Rok easily had the best atmosphere and decorations of all the restaurants we ate at. Food was a bit hit or miss for us. The Thai shrimp and the grilled cheese were delicious, but the steak and the beef in a pancake were a bit underwhelming. Still worth a visit, especially if you are going with friends or family.

Fiskfelagid – Fish Company

Easily one of the best restaurants we have eaten at in our travels, Fish Company blew us away. I ordered the Moroccon Date, which was a roasted wolfish, bell peppers, hummus, crisp naan bread, and yohu paste with mint. I didn’t think this random assortment of ingredients would work, but it was just sublime. Jackie ordered the USA – BBQ course (Murica) which was a marinated beef tenderloin, beef pastrami, and bone marrow. Jackie and I agreed that it was the best pastrami we have ever had. Make sure and find time to come here. You won’t be disappointed.
