Reykjavik

We spent our first afternoon/evening in Reykjavik and the last 3 days there.  Here is a list of some of the cool things we saw.

  1. Colors and art everywhere! Iceland is known for being expensive and that is not an exaggeration… but you can walk around the city and take in all the beautiful street art, monuments, and architecture for free.
  2. Whales of Iceland Museum: We needed something to do before our flight so we checked out the Whales of Iceland Museum.  Overall it was a neat experience.  They have a free audio tour and life sized replicas of different types of whales.  Con – it was $30 per person and yielded 45-60 minutes of entertainment.
  3. Hallgrímskirkja Church: The famous church that you always see when you google Iceland or view #iceland on instagram.  It is as beautiful in real life as it is on the internet though so it’s worth stopping by.  You can view the outside and lower level of the church at no charge but if you want take the 6 person elevator ride to the top it is $10 per person.  The views are nice though and the parking is free (although busy).
  4. Icelandic Phallological Museum: Yes, we went to the world famous penis museum.  And we giggled the whole time.  I recommend going because why not?  It costs $15 per person to enter and there you will see the largest collection of animal penises, statues, and drawings/art in the world.  I didn’t link this to the museum’s website, just to google maps, because I think the surprise is worth it.  Just go see it.  Laugh at the penis on the sign outside and buy a penis shot glass.

    5. Random Shipwreck because well, random shipwreck.  We are up for about anything so when we heard we could go gawk at a shipwreck we said, “Heck yeah!” It was pretty cool and we were able to take cool photos but it was windy…. so windy I was squatting most of the time we were there so I wouldn’t blow over and I did at one time yell to Chad as he stepped closer and closer to the water to see the boat “If you fall in because of the wind I won’t save you!”  Here is the location so you can see for yourself: 64°09’39.9″N 21°47’47.0″W
